With the ever growing popularity of ecigarettes there is a constant question on eliquid strength and how will it suit your needs. You know there are a lot of flavors and nicotine concentrations but you don’t really know which one to choose, so let’s try start with de beginning.

NicotineNicotine is considered to be a stimulant when used in low doses.  Stimulants (also referred to as psychostimulants) are psychoactive drugs which induce temporary improvements in either mental or physical functions or both. Examples of these kinds of effects may include enhanced alertness, wakefulness, and locomotion, among others. Due to their effects typically having an "up" quality to them, stimulants are also occasionally referred to as "uppers".  However, when used in high doses, nicotine has the exact opposite effect and it can be a depressant.

Nicotine is an oily alkaloid substance composed of carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen molecules. It is naturally produced by plants (it constitutes approximately 0.6–3.0% of the dry weight of tobacco but is also present in extremely small quantities in other edible plants) but it can also be artificially manufactured.

After being inhaled, nicotine affects the central nervous system because it is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. It encourages the production of epinephrine, also known as adrenaline and therefore stimulates the nervous system. The higher levels of adrenaline in the blood stream are what cause the “buzz” effect. It can also diminish anxiety and increase the levels of dopamine (a substance that causes pleasure sensations in the brain) and sometimes can keep people focused. Sometimes it can also be helpful in the reduction of pain.

An ecigarette cartridge with nicotine will provide you with the effects of a stimulant, but without the hazardous effects of inhaling tobacco smoke inside your lungs.

The amount of nicotine in your favorite eJuice is expressed in mg/ml, meaning the amount of nicotine in milligrams, for each milliliter of eLiquid. That means a 10ml bottle of 18mg nicotine eLiquid would have 180mg of nicotine in it (18mg x 10ml). Likewise, a 30ml bottle of 18mg eLiquid would have 540mg of nicotine in it (18mg x 30ml).

When refilling your cartridges with ejuice, you may want to know how much nicotine is contained in each drop.  There are approx 20 drops of eliquid per milliliter. So, using the 18mg nicotine eliquid as an example, there would be 0.8mg of nicotine per drop (18mg/20 drops). So, if you put three drops of ejuice into your cartridge (or directly into the atomizer), it means you will be inhaling in 2.4mg of nicotine from the time you start until you refill.

Eliquids usually come in 24 mg, 18 mg, 12mg and 6mg strengths but let’s not forget about the 0mg versions for those who have quit smoking but still have the oral reflex.

-        6mg is destined for users that want the smallest nicotine intake, and they are one step closer to quitting;

-        12mg is intended for people who normally enjoy nicotine but are not heavy vapers;

-        18mg is for the user that wants almost the same amount of nicotine as in normal cigarettes;

-        24mg – 30mg if for the heavy smokers that are used to one or more than one pack a day;

Knowing all of these facts will help you choose the best alternative for you and you’ll be ready to enjoy a smoking free lifestyle once you pick your favorite flavor.

Former pack-a-day smoker, I discovered electronic cigarettes back in 2011. Since then vaping has slowly turned into my hobby and my full time job. I’ve tested hundreds of e-cigarettes and mods across the years and constantly used my knowledge and experience to help others make the switch. I’m passionate about technology, I enjoy reading and I love big flavorful clouds.
