Mini version of the SMOK Alien, The SMOK AL85 Alien Baby is not very complex in terms of features, but it definitely rocks in when it comes to performance and consistency. Flavor was super intense on these Q2 coils and they seem to last for a very long time. We didn't experience any leaks or dry hits and the overall experience was incredible. It's clearly a go to kit for any beginner or for any experienced vaper looking for something light and portable but at the same time powerful.
The original SMOK Alien was probably one of the best devices we tested in 2016 in terms of quality to price ratio and performance. We still recommend it to users asking for our advice and we were more than thrilled to put the new mini version to the test. It's called the SMOK AL85 Alien Baby kit and looks very similar to an iStick Pico in terms of size. However, it still has all the perks which made the Alien super popular amongst users.
SMOK AL85 Baby box contents and general info
The SMOK AL85 Alien Baby kit comes packed in a lovely black cardboard gift box and it's available in four difference color options – gold, black, gunmetal and stainless steel. Inside the box you will find the SMOK AL85 mod, a TFV8 Baby Beast tank with a 0.4 Ohm coil pre-installed, a spare 0.6 Ohm coil, a micro-USB cable, a bag of spare O-rings and gaskets as well as the user manual.
The O-rings on the TFV8 Baby Beast tank match the design colors of the mod, and this makes them go together just right. You could also use it with slightly bigger atomizers or tanks like the 24.5mm TFV8 Big Baby, but anything above that will have some overhang.
Design and Features
On the top of the SMOK AL85 mod we have a spring loaded 510 connector and a battery door knob, very similar to that on the Pico. The fire button on the other hand closely resembles the one on the original Alien and it's more of a bar than a simple button. On the front of the mod there's the lovely display as well as the adjustment button. The device measures 71 x 48 x 27mm and it weighs no more than 120 grams.
As it goes for all modern day kits, the SMOK AL85 Alien Baby features temperature control for Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel and it can reach a maximum of 85W. It's powered by a single 18650 high drain battery (not included) and it can fire down to 0.10 Ohms in regular power mode. You can also set it to Hard, Normal or Soft to adjust the way power is delivered to the coil.
The OLED display is crisp and very precise. It shows real time information about remaining battery charge, current wattage, output voltage, atomizer resistance, working current, operating mode, board temperature as well as number of puffs.
The TFV8 Baby tank is amazing
The TFV8 Baby Beast tank provided with this kit is a mini cloud chaser and it absolutely shines in terms of vapor production and flavor. We mostly used it with the 0.6 Ohm coil at 40W and it didn't show any signs of struggling even with high VG e-liquids. The tank measures 53mm in height and has a diameter of 22mm, with a total capacity of 3.0ml. It has a very nice top fill mechanism and comes with adjustable airflow integrated in the bottom ring.

The only downside we found was the 3.0ml capacity of the tank. Given they go through e-liquid like a warm knife through butter, it's probably a good idea to take a bottle with you when using it at the office. Other than that, stellar performance at a very good price.
