UD BALROG TC - Reviewed

UD BALROG TC Kit

Today I have a very special mod to talk to you about and it was sent to me for the purpose of this review. I did test a few of Youde’s products in the past but they were mostly mechanical mods and atomizers so I was very excited when I found out they are ready to release their first electronic mod starter kit. The UD BALROG TC is a greatly priced kit which includes a box mod and a state of the art sub ohm tank that’s aimed at beginners and intermediate vapers. And the reason I say it’s intended for beginners also is that it comes with three types of coils out of the box – a 0.5 Ohm Kanthal head, a 0.15 Ohm Nickel head and 1.8 Ohm Kanthal head that’s clearly intended for mouth to lung hits and for getting users accustomed to the whole e-smoking experience.

UD BALROG TC kit box contentsThe UD BALROG TC comes packed in a black & red cardboard box with a nice logo on the top and inside you will find the mod itself, the tank with the 0.5 Ohm coil fitted inside, two spare coils (Kanthal and Nickel), a bag of spare O-rings and seals, a user’s manual, a micro-USB charging cable, a spare Pyrex glass tube, and a neck strap. So already we’re looking at a pretty complete starter kit, with the only thing missing being an RBA base and a battery.

The mod has a very ergonomic design and it’s very easy to hold and to operate. It has a unique feature called a condensation ring mounted on top of the 510 connector that’s basically a ring filled with cotton designed to absorb any moisture or e-liquid that comes from the tank to keep your mod nice and clean. The 510 connector is spring loaded and also on the top side there’s a connector for the neck strap. On the main side of the UD BALROG TC we have the firing button that’s somehow integrated in the body of the mod, the display, the up & down buttons and the micro-USB charging port.

The BALROG comes only in black and it measures roughly 78 x 38 x 23mm with brass, Zink alloy and UD BALROG TC mod battery doorstainless steel used for its solid construction. It is powered by a single high drain 18650 battery (not included) and the door is located on back and held in place by powerful magnets. I didn’t notice any sort of rattle with this mod and the included tank does a great job at matching the device’s power.

The tank can hold a maximum of 3ml of e-liquid, so it has a pretty minimalistic design and it’s very well built. It has an airflow adjustment ring on the bottom and it comes with a heat proof drip tip on the top. It works with Kanthal coils in variable wattage mode and with Nickel coils in temperature control mode. It’s a top filling device and you have to unscrew the top cap to get accesses to the refilling holes.

UD BALROG TC full kitThe UD BALROG TC can go from 5 – 70W and it works with resistances between 0.15 Ohms (TC mode) and 3.0 Ohms. In temperature control mode you can choose a value between 200 – 600F (100 – 300C) and it also works with Titanium. I do suggest reading the manual before starting to use the mod as it gives essential information about the menu structure and the different types of settings.

The tank is easy to refill and it produces a good amount of vapor in both variable wattage mode ( 0.5 Ohm version) and in temperature control mode. I’ve also used the 1.8 Ohm coil for some nice mouth to lung hits but it’s not as powerful as its sub ohm counterpart. The UD BALROG TC is an affordable starter kit that works flawlessly and with a maximum output power of 70W it’s extremely versatile.
