Try to imagine that you’re relaxed, reading your favorite magazine and you want to enjoy your ecigarette. You take it out of your pocket, put it in your mouth and you’re waiting for that amazing flavor to spoil your taste buds but nothing happens. You try again, you can feel the vapors, you can see the device is working properly but still you don’t feel any taste. What is happening?

broken tongue ecigsWell, the first thing you need to do is not to panic. Your tongue is not “broken” nor are you suffering from any strange illness. Every vaper will come across this experience at least one since buying the first ecigarette and even long term veterans remember their first tasteless moment. It is called “Vaper’s tongue” and it’s a common phenomenon among ecigarette users.

The good news is that it’s nothing permanent and it usually goes away by itself in a period of time that ranges from a few minutes to a few hours. But what causes this effect and what can you do to keep on enjoying your favorite flavor as soon as possible?  Let’s find out.

The first and most probable cause is a mild dehydration. The vapor solution in your ejuice acts as a humectant. This is a common term for a substance that promotes retention of moisture. In other words, the vapor you inhale acts sometimes like a little sponge for your oral cavity and it might leave a sticky dry film over your tongue once it has dried out (we all know that’s our body’s first natural response to dehydration).

However the solution to this cause is very simple: drink water while you vape or other liquids but try to stay away from caffeinated beverages, that tend to make this sensation even more intense.

The second reason could be the effect of kicking the habit. If you have recently quit smoking and began using the ecigarette you might know that your taste buds are now in complete disarray and could experience the same sensation when eating or drinking too. But have no fear, in a couple of weeks everything will return to normal and you’ll be able to enjoy all of your favorite flavors.

Another reason could be that your brain is getting so used to that flavor so it gradually diminishes it. Have you ever noticed how we sometimes tend to ignore the stuff that we are getting very accustomed to (like background noise, the color of the drapes and so on)? This could also be the case of your favorite flavor. Try switching to your second personal favorite for a couple of days and then give it another shot. You’ll be amazed how good it tastes.

We also know that the nose plays a very important part when feeling flavors and the common cold or sinus infections could also play tricks on your sense of taste. If this is the case for you then have no worries, there are dozens of remedies for this so hurry to your doctor or to your local drug store to get that cold treated so you could enjoy again the refined taste of your ecigarette.

So, when you come across Vapor’s tongue, keep in mind that you can make it go away a lot faster if you:

–        Drink lots of water and keep hydrated

–        Brush your teeth more frequently and use a the tongue cleanser too

–        Eat or drink something with a very powerful flavor

–        Switch to another flavor for some time

If none of the above methods work for you then the best thing you can do is wait it out. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to enjoy your personal favorite ecigarette flavor very soon.
