Surpassing cig-a-like models and eGo devices in sales, the tank e-cigarettes have become the latest trend across the vaping community and besides the powerful batteries and fancy electronics, these gizmos also require an atomizer or tank. Only a few mechanical mods or Advanced Personal Vaporizers come with a tank out of the box, and if they do, it’s usually a low quality model that needs to be replaced if you want to experience the full potential of your freshly bought vaping beast.

genesis style RTAThere are a lot of atomizers or tanks out there, and to find one perfectly suited for your needs takes a lot of research prior to the purchase. The first thing you need to understand is that both mods and tanks come in different shapes and sizes, but the most important feature is the exterior diameter. You don’t want to buy a huge tank designed for a big 26650 battery if you have a small mod that works with 18350 batteries for instance.

The rebuildable atomizers are generally divided into three main categories: rebuildable dripping atomizers (RDAs), Genesis style atomizers (tanks) and hybrid atomizers (RBAs).

Rebuildable dripping atomizers offer the best performance, vapor and flavor but at the cost of constantly dripping e-liquid on the rebuildable coils and wicks. They require a lot of knowledge and skill in order to work properly but they are some of the most loved devices throughout the vaping community. They are usually made of a lower deck that has a center positive post and a single or multiple negative posts to hold the coils, a well to hold the e-liquid infused wick and a top cap. If you like the idea of building your own coils and don’t mind the time consuming operation, then get ready for some ultimate cloud chasing. With these types of devices you can easily go under the 1Ohm resistance limit and experiment the thrills of sub-ohm vaping.

The Genesis type atomizer has generally an upper deck for the coils, and it usually uses an oxidized steel mesh to feed the e-liquid from the bottom tank. They are more durable than the RDAs and they feature a tank to hold the e-liquid so there’s no need to constantly drip. They are some of the most used atomizers and they are probably the best suited for beginners.

The hybrid atomizers are a combination between the first two and feature a single coil and a tank to store the e-liquid. They can come with a variety of features such as an adjustable airflow ring.

If you don’t like rebuildable atomizers there’s another category or products with some popular devices the Tank Systems or dual coil tanks, that are essentially a cartomizer surrounded by a Pyrex tank that holds the e-liquid. The coils are not rebuildable but are replaceable and these types of systems have become increasingly popular in the last few years due to their remarkable performance and simplicity.
