While becoming increasingly popular products, electronic cigarettes have come a very long way since they were first introduced almost ten years ago. Nowadays they are everywhere and more and more people make the switch in their effort to fight the hazards of tobacco smoking. Celebrities have played a key role in making these tiny devices so popular by using them in public or at glamorous events. Lady Sovereign, Jodie Marsh and Paul Nicholls have been happy to talk about their ecigarettes, because not only do they look stylish but they are also a far healthier option than their tobacco analogs, so it’s sending out the right message to their fans.
Johnny Depp is one of the better known celebrity ecigarette users, mainly because his role in “The Tourist” – a film in which he co-starred with Angelina Jolie. In one key scene, the two meet for the first time on a train and Depp’s character is puffing away on his e-cigarette. He explains what he is doing and even touches the tip with his hand to prove that it’s not burning any tobacco.
Katherine Heigl, the beautiful blonde from Grey’s Anatomy is a proud vapor, even puffing on her ecigarette during an appearance on David Letterman in 2010. She started smoking when she was 25 and she tried using a lot of methods along the years to get rid of her nasty habit. Nothing seemed to be working until she came across an electronic cigarette.
Another famous diva that has been spotted using her e-ecigarettes is Kate Moss. One of the world’s most-recognized supermodels, the rock star wife, mother and designer has stopped smoking and has started vaping. Also celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Courtney Love and Lindsay Lohan are often seen puffing from their ecigs while wondering through shopping malls or relaxing outdoors. Even former Playboy playmate Jenny McCarthy has agreed on partnering with e-cigarette brand Blu Cigs in one of their recent television ads.
But besides this year’s Golden Globes, where Leonardo DiCaprio and Julia Louis-Dreyfus made a lot of fuss in the media for vaping on their ecigarettes, a recent TV apparition caught everyone by surprise. It was great to see Claire Underwood remove Francis ‘cigarettes in a recent episode of our favorite series ‘House of Cards’. Francis (“Frank”) – who is played by renowned actor Kevin Spacey – has therefore started using the e-cigarettes in one scene as an alternative to tobacco analogs.
“Hey you’re cheating!”
“No I’m not, its vapor.”
“You should try it, addiction without the consequences.”
“It’s all yours.”
We all know habits are difficult to break, but having a safer and healthier alternative available is a win-win situation for everyone. With all the recent bans of e-cigarettes by many major US cities it’s nice to see some free positive publicity to our beloved smokeless companions.
